To set the stage for scaling your business, it’s crucial to ensure two things:

  1. There’s demand for what you offer, and
  2. You can fulfil the promises you make.

The easiest way to validate this is by swiftly selling and serving 10 customers. This not only injects much-needed cash flow but also grants you invaluable insights, data and the confidence required to take the leap to the next level.
Here’s the key insight: Acquiring those initial 10 customers isn’t about capability; it is about determination. Imagine if your life or the lives of your loved ones depended on securing 10 sales – you’d unquestionably make it happen, wouldn’t you? Therefore, you make this an essential practice.
So, forget about the “how” for now; scalability isn’t the immediate focus.

Just find 10 individuals eager to pay for your product or service and go the extra mile to transform them into thriving, enthusiastic advocates for your brand, your product, your service and what you offer.

LEVEL OF SCALE 2 – AUTOMATE THE CUSTOMER ACQUISITION JOURNEY USING A “GROWTH FLYWHEEL”

Now that you’ve ensured your product resonates with the market (you know there is a demand for your offering), it’s time to transition from sporadic sales to a reliable, repeatable sales model. Enter the “Growth Flywheel.”

To kickstart your Growth Flywheel, begin by visually charting your customer acquisition journey, AKA your “Growth Engine”). The beauty of this is in its simplicity – whether you opt for a sophisticated approach or keep it down-to-earth with post-it notes and a whiteboard, the goal is to map out your customer’s journey.

LEVEL OF SCALE 3 – UPGRADE YOUR BUSINESS OPERATING SYSTEM

At this stage, the objective is to evolve from a business that relies on YOU to a fully systemised and scalable enterprise capable of thriving independently.

To enhance your company’s Operating System, the initial step involves meticulously documenting the “set of algorithms” that drive your business. These algorithms encompass all playbooks, SOPs, KPI’s and the dedicated team members responsible for their execution – elements crucial to the value-creation process.

Then you will need to define your company’s “communication architecture.” This includes the scorecards, dashboards, meeting schedules and announcements that keep you and your team in sync.

The third and final stride in upgrading your business operating system is to articulate the company’s “desired outputs,” ensuring seamless alignment of your people, processes and systems toward a shared goal.

We strongly recommend a salary increase! Consider boosting your take-home pay by 25% each month until either doubling your salary or generating ample after-tax income to sustain your lifestyle while allocating at least 10-15% for savings and investment.

While this might seem self-centred, it is, in fact, the most valuable investment you can make in your business. Afterall, can you genuinely prioritize your customers if you are preoccupied with paying your own bills and putting food on your own table?

LEVEL OF SCALE 5 – BUILD YOUR ADVISORY BOARD

Here’s a fact – that all successful companies have mastered: Every single one of them boasts Advisory Boards comprised of peers and mentors. If you’re aiming to construct a truly scalable company, it’s high time you did the same.

Embarking on the Entrepreneurial journey can often be a solitary endeavour. That’s precisely why you need a combination of mentors for fresh ideas and inspiration and peers to keep you accountable to your goals, share in the challenges and revel in the victories and successes along the way.

But how do you pinpoint the right board members and how do you appropriately compensate them once you’ve identified them? The solution lies in finding the correct mentor because a capable mentor not only assists in building your board but is also willing to serve on it.
